Life goes on... It has no pause button. It just has a power switch.

Wednesday December 13 8:11 AM ET
Supreme Court Shuts Down Recount

.... Dissenting were Justices John Paul Stevens, David H. Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen G. Breyer. In a forceful dissent, Stevens wrote: ``Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year's presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the nation's confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the law.'' ....

I wrote this yesterday, and updated it today:

[To the tune of "Scrubs" by TLC:]
I don't want no shrub
Boy Dubyuh didn't get no vote from me
Hangin' on the passenger side
of his daddy's ride
A slimy victory

Like a good sports team, they ran out the clock... Too much said... onward...

:::

Carl's funeral was a wonderful celebration of the man and his contributions. The same pastor who provided over his wife's funeral about 3 years ago and our wedding 2 years ago offered the service.

The viewing was a bit of a strange experience. I heard someone say "It looks just like Carl" and another said "Looks like he's taking a power nap". It was a lot like seeing a wax museum figure. They buried him in jeans and a nice cotton broadcloth shirt - it would have been so bogus to see his body in a suit. That wasn't him. At first, the little scraps of yellow paper that he always carried in his breast pocket were missing. He always had a pen and a scrap of paper to jot notes on. The daughters quickly rectified that. Now, the names of the family are on a note in the pocket closest to his heart.

I'm glad he didn't suffer for long. The doctors say it was a massive heart attack, and that he went quickly. His last day with us was packed with activities, and he had just seen friends about 10 minutes before his body was found at home. I think that's just the way he would have planned it: Alive until the very last minute, checking-out in private.
