IM with my friend P:

p: i got to give bush the finger yesterday
p: as his motorcade drove by 3rd avenue
me: Cool!!!
p: was not the most grown up thing to do
me: yeah, and???
p: was a knee-jerk reaction
p: felt great.

Wonder how often Bush has that experience.

:::

Well, the convention is over, and the city probably feels a little bit less like an armed camp. I'm glad my fellow New Yorkers gave those folks the right kind of welcome. Even the pro-Bush Post and Daily News had to run front-page stories about the protests; they couldn't bury it on page 5.

We knew they were going to try to exploit 9/11 all over again, and they did. Another friend of mine shot darts at the TV while the convention was on. I tuned out for the most part.

November 2 is right around the corner. Whatever the outcome, history is in the making. It bothers me that both candidates are making so much noise about winning the War on Terrorism. Yeah, just like we won the War on Poverty and the War on Drugs... Terrorism is a response to a stimulus. We're not about to take away the stimulus. It's what Bush keeps referring to when he talks about “Our Freedom.”

:::

The camera cannot lie,” or so they said.

The relationship between photography and reality was all a misunderstanding. — Next Level

William Eggleston and Jemima Stehli are featured in the current issue of Next Level Magazine. In the article, Eggleston is quoted as saying “I am at war with the obvious.” Not only can the camera lie through omission or manipulation, but photography's built-in credibility can actually be used in a subversive way by savvy artists.
